Serina is very active in her school, community and volunteering.

Her list of  accomplishments and membership into youth organizations focused on bettering their communities is extensive
.

Serina Lee focuses a majority of her time outside of school on Community Service and serving as a youth mentor. After completing her Gold Award project work for Girl Scouts, the highest girl honor that can be earned, she was selected as just one of eight Girl Scouts to present her service work to President Obama at the White House in the summer of 2012. 

She also has been working closing with her state Senators and Representatives to take her literacy initiative to higher levels. This past year she has specifically worked with Senator Morales in presenting her "Read for Joy" program to the state Legislative Education Study Committee to take the program statewide.
 
She received the distinguished honor two times the "President's Volunteer Service Award" recognized by President Obama. She was honored twice with the Prudential Spirit of Community Bronze Award for the State of New Mexico. This award is a special recognition for outstanding volunteer work. Serina has also completed the highest level of Torch Awards through BPA for her various service projects, earning the Ambassador Torch Award National Recognition.  
She has also earned the national recognition twice from BPA, Service Learning Award for 500 or more hours beyond the Ambassador Torch Award.  

Serina Pack is the 2013-2014 Grand Worthy Advisor for the State of New Mexico (state president) of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She is also active in CKI, is a past president of WNMU and is the CKI Lt. Governor of the Rio Grande Division.  Serina serves as a Senator at WNMU, President of WNMU Honor's Club and commits almost all of her time outside of her studies to helping others. 

She is a double major in Business and Environmental Sustainability, but she is also considering Child Psychology. Her long term goal is to earn her PhD.  She serves of the Girl Scout Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, overseeing over 113,500 Girl Scouts in West Texas and Southern New Mexico.  She is a member of Business Professionals of America and proud member of the American Legion Post 18 Auxiliary serving as Unit and District 7 Chaplain.

Besides being compassionate about promoting reading literacy, Serina Pack has earned considerable recognition for her work to improve the environment.  In 2012, she received 1st place in Environmental Science at the world’s largest science fair, INTEL Science and Engineering Fair.  She also has received two gold medals for the United States at Genius Olympiad (the largest Environmental Science Fair in the world) for her environmental research on mining reclamation. She received the NM BioGenius national award and also the Stockholm Jr. Waterprize from NM.

Some other things about her. Serina Pack is a world champion horsewoman, training paint/pinto horses since she was 10 years old and service as New Mexico Paint Horse Club Youth President.


She is a past member of the National 4-H Leadership Team, past State 4-H Ambassador and National Champion Public Speaker.   Through 4-H and her horses, she has received over 60 belt buckles, hundreds of trophies, and over a thousand ribbons.  She is a RYLA, Key Leader and Girl Scout Leadership Academy graduate. She severs as Chaplain for American Legion Post 18 Aux. and district, and  is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star service group.

With all that Serina does, what she holds most dear are the times where she can help another.  Through addressing difficult social issues from low literacy rates to environmental pollution, Serina works each day to “be the change” she wants to see in the world-one of her slogans.

She hopes to take her “Read for Joy” program statewide – nationwide. She hopes to continue to promote reading importance everywhere she goes and across borders.

With all of her work, Serina always holds reference to our Veterans and active military who have made possible the country in which we live.  As Serina speaks with youth and adults in many places and settings, she always thanks veterans for the rights and freedoms they have helped to make possible. Photo on top right above was taken Memorial Day, 2013, at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she was the guest speaker. She presented a memorable speech -- "Thank you for your Voice." 
Above, left bottom, Serina is pictured with Dan McBride, a decorated WWII Veteran, who Serina was honored to help design a special float for the 2013 4th of July parade whereby 15 WWII Veterans were honored to ride as Grand Marshals. To the right, bottom, Serina is pictured with James Knight, a veteran from American Legion Post 18.  Serina shares, "We should always show our love and respect to our veterans, thanking them everyway we can for the freedoms and lives we live."
